T2W 7 & 8 Journal Writing : Youth Olympic Games (YOG)

Hi Everyone,

In about three months' time, Singapore will be hosting the Youth Olympic Games (YOG). Athletes from many countries will be descending upon Singapore and competing in the many sports and games.

For this week, I would like you to reflect on the YOG. To help you with the reflection, I have listed some questions below:

1. When and where will the YOG be held?
The YOG will be held in Singapore from 14 to 26 August 2010.

2. How old must the athlete be in order to compete in the YOG?
The athlete must be aged between 14 and 18 years in order to compete in the YOG.


3. What are the mascots and theme song for the YOG?
The mascots are Lyo the Lion cub and Merly the Merlion cub. The theme song is sung by JJ and it is Cheer Singapore.


4. What are the Olympic values?
The Olympic values are Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

5. What can you do to practise the Olympic values at home and in school?
I can practise the Olympic values by displaying sportsmanship.

6. Do you think it is a good idea to hold the YOG in Singapore? Why? Yes, I think it is a good idea to hold the YOG in Singapore as Singapore is quite good in sports.


7. Where will the next YOG be held? When will it be?
The next YOG will be held in London. It will be from 27 July-12 Aug 2012.
